While we can show commercially purchased films (i.e. DVD’s you buy from the store or borrow from the library) and legitimate YouTube clips in class, our licence doesn’t cover you for recording that content in Lecture Capture and therefore need to be edited out. That process has consisted of lecturers needing to note down what time they commenced showing material, what time they stopped showing material and then reporting this to the lecture capture team and waiting for the editing process.
Learning Environments promised us last year that in 2013, lecture theatres would have a pause button to enable lecturers to self edit as they go and Learning Environments have delivered! Now all you need to do is press the pause button before you commence playing the copyright material and then resume the recording when you’ve finished showing the material.
