I thought that we would focus on publishing this month. It’s a nice follow-on from open access. However, I would like to shift the focus a little bit from publishing research. I will, of course, be talking a little bit about that – it’s almost impossible not to! Publishing research is a crucial part of participating in the academic community. But I also want to talk about the non-academic side of publishing. The University has a reputation for publishing ground-breaking research, but how many of you were aware that we also produce and publish non-academic material for a variety of purposes. Yes, often it’s marketing material for the University but it can also be other resources such as EHS information or HR resources and toolkits.
So this month, I want to talk about some of the issues around publishing these types of material. Who knows you might be writing something worth publishing right now – an information guide, web page – really the sky’s the limit. I’ll give you some idea of your options for publishing and what you will need to do to get your work published.
I won’t be neglecting researchers who are looking for information either. I do plan to have something for everyone, but I want to think a little bit outside the box on this topic, to encourage you to get creative and see what the possibilities could be. If there is something in particular that you would like me to cover, comment below and I’ll do my best to come up with something for you!
