When I think of an event, the first thing that comes to mind is a performance of some kind or a party. The last thing on anyone’s mind when you say event is ‘copyright’ and that makes perfect sense… until you invite the general public.
As soon as you hear public, some kind of alarm bell should ding-a-ling in the back of your head.
We love to engage the wider community in the things we do – and so we should – it helps us, it helps our departments, our faculty and the University. But as soon as you involve the public, you involve risk. Now I don’t say that to scare you, I say that to wake you up – to re-enforce that ding-a-ling!
Over this month we’re going to talk about public events and highlight some really important things you should consider next time you’re organising or taking part in an event.
